Holiday Haute Lips

As the holidays are in full swing, I have given up spending a pretty penny on trendy beauty products that I am only use to glam up a few times a year.

Matte is definitely in style. From nails to lips – its everywhere from magazines to models. And while I enjoy seeing it on well-known celebrities, I have yet to find an inexpensive lip product that does not leave me looking like I’ve tackled sub zero degree weather so I can be on trend with the latest designer collaboration.

Thankfully, Civilized Cosmetics, a Miami based makeup line bridges the gap between high profile lines while still remaining affordable. Civilized Cosmetics are not only cruelty free and sustainable, but are also comprised of organic and vegan ingredients such as green tea, plumeria, chamomile, and elderberry.

For my go-to holiday look, I selected a blue-red Black Berry from the non-drying, matte Liquid Lip Suede six-piece collection ($28; 0.28 oz.). It’s a bold shade lipstick with a smooth suede finish. To make sure that the color lasted on my lips, I followed the instructions on the package for great results:

  • Exfoliate – Any salt lover can tell you that food choices can often dehydrate cause dry lips. One of the best exfoliates I have used to date is Sara Happ’s Sweet Clay Mask ($32, 0.47 oz.). It does double duty to exfoliate and hydrate with Bentonite Clay and Swertiamarin. Leave it on for 15 min and wipe it off using a tissue.
  • Hydrate – It’s bloody cold outside and applying extra moisturizer to your pout never hurt anybody. I’m currently using Kopari’s Coconut Lip Love ($12, 0.3 oz.). Being petroleum-free, cruelty-free, silicone-free, non-GMO & vegan makes it an easy win. An added bonus, the coconut smell will remind you of your last tropical vacation.
  • Line lips – I usually use a gloss so I hardly line my lips with a liner. Yet, when wearing dark colors it’s best to define the lips and make sure that the product does not move. I found Charlotte Tilbury’s Berry Naughty ($27, 0.04 oz.) to work wonders. Here’s a Pro Makeup artist tip – filling in the entire lips with liner, rather than just outlining will enhance the suede finish of the lipstick.

Here’s hoping you get on the matte movement with Civilized Cosmetics and sport the perfect pout just like me. Have a happy holiday season!
