When I was growing up in a small town, I would watch these ads for Double Tree hotels on hotel. The thing I remembered most was the cookies. These moist, warm chocolate chip welcome cookies. Unfortunately for me, our family vacations mostly involved a 1980’s Volvo and staying with family relatives with no scrumptious, chewy cookies on board.
An avid traveller to NY, who rarely stays in the midtown area (due to the noise level and the tourists) I was excited to see how the Hilton’s 500th hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York Times Square West would change my mind.
In previous trips to the big Apple, I would find myself staying somewhere in the mid 20’s to 30’s to accommodate travel between meetings in Midtown and Downtown. Located on the west side of Times Square, makes the DoubleTree Times Square West less of a nightmare to catch a cab to travel and the avoidance of the crowds trying to line up for the TKTS booth.
Opening their doors in Spring 2017, the 37-story hotel features 612 modern rooms, with views of the city or the Hudson River. Even though the hotel is located midtown, there is no holding back on amenities. One of New York’s best-kept secrets is the rooftop & indoor lounge, Lovage. It is open until 2 a.m. Sunday to Wednesday and until 4 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. The lounge itself is decadent décor with Christian Lacroix fabrics and chainmail columns. I captured some breathtaking photos of the skyline courtesy of the 360-degree view.
I’m used to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® coffee shops from trips to California, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was in-room tea and coffee offerings from this brand. You can imagine that the tea went great with the warm welcome cookie! Thankfully, the lobby had cold water for guests to keep hydrated after a humid day in the city.
Beyond the snacks, I’m always thankful when a hotel has strong, consistent Wi-Fi, a clean environment (bathroom and linen) in a handy location. I found myself walking to meetings more than usual, picking up coffee at the Dean & Deluca and exploring the streets of New York via the best way – on foot. If you are looking for a hotel that will provide you with the convenience of Midtown with the comforts of home check in to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York Times Square West. It’s more than just a good cookie!
