What city can boast having the most top rated hotels and restaurants in the country?

New York!

AAA has announced the recipients of its 2017 Five and Four Diamond awards, recognizing the best-of-the-best in lodging and fine dining with New York topping the list.

People in New York City have the greatest opportunities to enjoy the Five and Four Diamond experience. New York City has the greatest number of Five Diamond hotels (10), Five Diamond restaurants (9), Four Diamond hotels (54) and Four Diamond restaurants (33). “With so many excellent hotels and restaurants, it’s no wonder more than 58 million people last year visited the crown jewel of hospitality in the United States, New York,” said Robert Sinclair, Jr., manager of media relations for AAA Northeast. New York is also the only city to add both a Five Diamond hotel, the St. Regis New York, and a Five Diamond restaurant, The Modern, for 2017.

AAA Northeast will present awards to the Five Diamond hotels and restaurants in New York City at a ceremony on April 4th at noon at the Pierre Hotel.

AAA Five Diamond hotels provide ultimate luxury, sophistication and comfort with extraordinary physical attributes, meticulous personalized service, extensive amenities and impeccable standards of excellence. Of the nearly 28,000 Diamond rated hotels, only 0.4% received the Five Diamond rating. Four Diamond hotels are refined and stylish, providing upscale physical attributes, extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail. Only six percent of AAA rated hotels received Four Diamond ratings. A Five Diamond restaurant provides leading-edge cuisine of the finest ingredients, uniquely prepared by an acclaimed chef, served by expert service staff led by a maître d’ in extraordinary surroundings. Of the 31,000 Diamond rated restaurants, only 0.2% received the Five Diamond rating. A Four Diamond restaurant provides distinctive fine-dining, creatively prepared, and skillfully served, often by a wine steward, amid upscale ambience. Only two percent of AAA Diamond rated restaurants received a Four Diamond rating.

The AAA Diamond is the only rating system in North America that uses full-time, professionally trained inspectors to evaluate properties on an annual basis. Inspector notes for the newly crowned Five Diamond St. Regis New York hotel include these comments: “A New York landmark since 1904, this appealing property offers style at a grand level. When combined with contemporary luxury and attentive services, it is in a rarefied, supreme class altogether.”

The Modern, new to the AAA Five Diamond restaurant list, prompted the following inspector notes: “An exquisite museum sculpture garden provides this restaurant a sublime, cosmopolitan and relaxed setting for a most splendid meal. Chef Abram Bissell adds his own signature and contemporary New American touch, and service staff is a pleasing blend of professional, enthusiastic young servers and a highly knowledgeable old guard.”

AAA Diamond ratings provide travelers a reliable way to find hotels and restaurants that meet AAA quality standards and will suit their needs. To be AAA approved, properties must pass an unannounced, on-site evaluation. Hotels must provide acceptable cleanliness, comfort and hospitality, and restaurants must meet requirements for cleanliness, food preparation and service. After an establishment is approved, the AAA inspector reviews an extensive list of attributes to determine the appropriate rating level, on a scale of One to Five Diamonds, based on the extensiveness of services, facilities and amenities. AAA rates more properties than any other professional rating system in North America and is the only system that uses full-time, professionally trained evaluators to inspect properties on an annual basis
