One of the leading film festivals is coming back to New York this season: The 16th Annual New York Turkish Film Festival! With 8 special films, both feature length and short films, this festival is sure to have something that will peak your interest.
The festival kicks off with the multi-award winning film, Cold of Kalandar, which tells the story of a man, his life and his relationship with nature, animals and human beings. Other films included in the line up are, Sleep of Love, My Father’s Wings, Frenzy and Blue. The short films being shown are Little Bullets and The Exhibit. Also, this is the first year that a film in the horror category is being screened. The film is entitled Housewife and it recently received acclaim in the second annual Brooklyn Horror Film Festival.
This year the excitement of the festival increases due to that fact that many of the screenings with be followed by Q&A’s with actors and directors from the films. Those participating in the Q&A’s sessions are Cold of Kalandar’s Director Mustafa Kara and Producer Nermin Aytekin, Sleep of Love’s Alican Yucesoy and Peyman Umay, The Exhibit’s Director and Actor Pinar Ogun, Little Bullets’ Director Alphan Eseli and Blue’s Director Sertan Unver and Producer Suzan Guverte.
The New York Turkish Film Festival brings the best of Turkey’s film industry to NYC and has screened more than 300 films since it’s beginning in 2001. This film festival is presented by the American Turkish Society, the oldest American institution dedicated to building bridges between the United States and Turkey. Other sponsors include the Turkey-America Business Council (TAIK) and RAMERICA.
Addressing the strong belief that film bridges cultures and illuminates the universality of the human experience, the festival strives to create a broad audience for programs that highlight Turkish arts and culture. The festival is being held from Thursday, November 30th to Sunday, December 3rd at the SVA Theatre in Chelsea.
